There are cynics out there who would tell you that discs should not be duplicated. They would say a whole bunch of reasons but more often, their reasons are all shallow. But there is one thing that they fail to mention. What they are actually talking about is CD duplication done in the confines of their homes. They have not yet tried having professionals do it for them.
So what do I look for in a dvd duplication services company? Well, first off, you need to know that the duplication process is about the same no matter who does the work. The only thing you may want to make sure of is that the duplicators have the ability to verify errors on CDs. This feature can detect any scratches, flaws or imperfections prior to being duplicated. So listen closely to your CD. Make sure your master is free of any pops or unfamiliar sounds to avoid making a bunch of bad copies. If you give a bad master to a company to duplicate, chances are you will probably be stuck with a batch of defective copies.
You will need to create the artwork for your CD face and the artwork for any inserts. An insert is the artwork that is displayed in the jewel case, which includes the “booklet” that comes with many CDs. To create these files, you will need an image editing/creation program. I recommend using Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop. But there are many different programs available for you to use that will work just as good.
Test your master on different types of media players to make sure it plays in all types of drives the eventual user will utilize to view or listen to your copy.
