A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Most of the calories in nuts come from fats, but the fats are the heart healthy type. The only nut high in saturated fat (heart unhealthy type) is the coconut. 95% of its fat comes from saturated fat. Two other nuts with a fair amount of saturated fat are cashews and Brazil nuts. The rest of the nuts have mostly polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. In many nuts, the polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are balanced, but several are loaded more with one or the other.
Oatmeal – Oh wonderful oatmeal. This power food is packed with protein and fiber. Eating oatmeal has been shown to sugarcoated almond reduce cholesterol and help with managing blood sugar. Skip the sugary flavored instant varieties and select whole or steel cut oats. Add flavor with natural sweeteners such as Stevia and fresh fruit.

Our body should maintain a pH balance so that it may function well. The cells are responsible for our better mind and body. These cells get weak and unhealthy when they are exposed to unwanted elements that come from the foods that we eat. When our body cells were damaged, it is a sign of having illnesses like cancer.
Step Five: Start today! Not after the school year or after camp or…you catch my drift. Your child is growing NOW and learning NOW. We can’t put that on hold so let’s not wait. Take even the smallest step today by getting outside with your child or teen and going for a bike ride, walk,or invite the neighborhood kids over for a back yard game of badminton. Learning a healthy lifestyle can be really fun if you let it!
